Experiential Opportunities
Academics and Social
As a Heyl Scholar, you need to select a major in the Division of Natural Sciences at Kalamazoo College or pursue a Bachelors of Science degree in Nursing at the Western Michigan University Bronson School of Nursing. During your studies, take time to get involved with student organizations that allow you to expand the breadth and depth of your work and interests.
Study Abroad
Heyl Scholars should not forego the opportunity to study abroad. Besides enhancing your academic qualifications, studying abroad is a valuable experience that: promotes an increased understanding of the world and your place in it, increases your independence, and provides you with valuable life-long skills.
Research
All Heyl Scholars are encouraged to conduct hands-on laboratory research. Working in a lab setting will help you to determine if graduate school is the right pathway for you. It is important to note that by “research” we mean hypothesis-driven research in a lab setting. Experiences in research can vary in setting and topic.
